July 3rd Fireworks Show at La Puente Park

Don’t miss the annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Show.  Festivities include rides, face painting, arts and crafts, food, and more.  Entertainment for the evening will be kicked off at 5:00 p.m.



Please remember that alcoholic beverages, smoking, barbecues, and fireworks (legal or otherwise) are prohibited throughout La Puente Park. Also, please make sure you are parked in a legal location.  Any and all vehicles found parked in alleys around La Puente Park will be immediately cited and towed.  Limited parking for the disabled will be available (first come, first served) in the La Puente Park parking lot adjacent to Hacienda Boulevard.

July 3rd Fireworks Show
At La Puente Park

Don’t miss the annual Fortunato Jimenez Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks Show.  The celebration starts at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, at La Puente Park.  Festivities include face painting, arts and crafts, food, and the sounds of Bumptown. 

As for facilities at the park, please make sure you are parked in a legal location.  Any and all vehicles found parked in alleys around La Puente Park will be immediately cited and towed.

While lawn chairs are encouraged to enjoy the celebration, please be advised that alcoholic beverages, smoking, barbecues, dogs, and fireworks (legal or otherwise) are prohibited throughout La Puente Park.  Arrive early to not only partake in the activities, but with the large amount of people attending to ensure you have a spot to enjoy the music and entertainment.  If you have questions about this year’s celebration, please feel free to call La Puente Community Center at (626) 855-1560.

Road closures around La Puente Park will be in place: Hacienda Boulevard will be closed in both directions south of Temple Avenue and north of Nelson Avenue. Glendora Avenue will be closed in both directions south of Temple Avenue and north of Nelson Avenue.

Traffic Traveling East: Azusa Ave. south to the 60, north to the 10.
Traffic Traveling West: Sunset south to 60. North to the 10.

Bring your dancing shoes as we fill the summer nights with a variety of music on four (4) consecutive Wednesdays. Food and drinks will be sold by non-profit organizations. Admission is free and open to the public.

Main Street Run

The City of La Puente will be hosting its 22nd Annual Main Street Halloween Run on Sunday, October 27, 2013. The races will be held on a challenging course that begins with an uphill stretch at the start of the race. The course begins and ends at La Puente City Hall, located at 15900 East Main Street. A cash prize of $150 will be awarded to the fastest male and female in each of the 5K and 10K runs. Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers in each of the age categories for the 5K and 10K races. There will also be a 5K walk and a Youth Fun Run for children 7 years and under. These races will not be timed. Every person completing the event will also receive a special recognition medal on the day of the event. Top finishers will be invited to the November 12 City Council Meeting to receive their awards and recognition. Registration opens on Friday, August 30 and closes on Monday, October 7. Spots may sell out so register early to ensure a spot. The registration fees are as follows:

  • 10K    $30
  • 5K     $30
  • 10K and 5K    $45
  • 5K Walkers    $25 (Not Timed)
  • Youth Fun Run    $15 (7 and Under Only, Not Timed)


Same Day registration will be available if space permits and participants will be assessed a $10 dollar late fee per race. Same Day registration is cash only please. Race packets including t-shirts and bibs will be available for pick up at the La Puente Youth Learning and Activity Center on Thursday, October 24, 2013, from 8am to 9pm and on Friday, October 25, 2013, from 8am to 9pm. The Youth Learning and Activity Center is located at 503 N. Glendora Avenue in the City of La Puente. Same day packet pick-up is available for an additional $5 (cash only) on the day of the race. The registration fee includes a commemorative race t-shirt, and a finisher medal. The registration form can also be found in this edition of the Spotlight. Participants are invited to get in the Halloween spirit. The best costumed male and female will each receive a prize. It's that time of the year again when the witches, ghosts, and goblins come out to play! All of our Monster friends will be at the Haunted Maze located at the La Puente Community Center, 501 N. Glendora Ave. and will be waiting for you! The Haunted Maze is recommended for children 6 years and under. Ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The City of La Puente will celebrate the commitment to past U.S. military personnel and those from La Puente currently serving our nation, taking place at the Veterans Memorial adjacent to City Hall. All residents, friends, and family members are invited to honor American Veterans on this special day.

 

Holiday Parade and Tree lighting

Mark your calendar for the City of La Puente’s Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony. Everyone is welcome to enjoy the festivities, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a parade at Workman Street and Glendora Avenue then heading onto Main Street. The parade will feature local float entries, school marching bands, cheerleaders, Girls and Boy Scouts, and many more. Immediately following the parade, the Mayor and City Council Members will ring in the holiday season by lighting up the tree.

The Old Town Puente Association will also have activities such as rides, bouncers, and much more after the tree lighting ceremony.
